I have an old Dell Vostro laptop, hard drive was replaced two years ago.
is it worth bothering to convert it to 7 or should I just keep it on XP. It's basically used as a backup computer mainly to go online.

Is the machine vulnerable without windows support?

IMO, for typical internet usage, it all comes down to the end-user.  If the computer is properly protected, IMO you'll be fine.  Are there threats that XP will be vulnerable to, but 7 won't?  Absolutely.  But your AV will protect you; again, if the eu does not click-through.  I think that most/many infections can be avoided with smart browsing.

Agreed. Many users running XP for years weren't even installing updates.
