Help With Using American Electronic Products in Israel?
« on: June 05, 2015, 09:27:59 AM »
If you know about using electronic devices, with american plugs, in israel please help me out.

I am moving to Israel and dont know if I should be buying all new electronics in Israel, or can i just use a outlet converter?
If there are stuff i want to buy now (a drill) should i wait till i move, and buy it there? or can i buy it here if i find a good deal and bring it over?

Thanks!

Technically You could make everything work everywhere with the right tools, but it's not practical, do you want to have transformers on every device?

adapters are only good for low voltage devices cellphones cameras, etc

Adapters, Converters, Transformers

Adapter = there are different types of electrical wall outlets adapter lets you adapt one to the other.
EX:  allow you to plug a flat-pinned (US) plug into a round-pinned (European/Asian) outlet.
However, there are at least 13 different configurations around the world, all needing a different adapter, and some countries have several different configurations. Adapters do not change voltage.

Converters = convert voltage
The world runs on two types of electricity: 110/125V or 220/240V. North American devices run on 110/125V electricity while the majority of the world runs on 220/240V. Converters and transformers change the voltage of electricity to match the voltage of your device.

are only for use with ungrounded (2-pin) electric heating appliances or those that use a 'universal' motor (Cordless Phones, Battery charger, curling irons, hairdryers, irons, etc.). Most converters are not designed for continuous use and should only be used for short periods of time, 45- 60 minutes. They should be unplugged when not in use.

Transformers=

They can also be used continuously for long periods of time (unlike converters) and at higher wattages. Like converters, transformers can be either 'Step-Up' or 'Step-Down' or 'Both' with a switch to control the direction in which the transformer is working.

It is recommended that travelers use a transformer that is rated at least 50% higher watt than that of the appliance with which you intend to use it. For example: A 500 Watt appliance should be used with a transformer of at least 750 Watts. Purchase a transformer that is at least 50% higher than the required wattage.

since the MHz are also different some clocks or of by a few
MHz = a unit of frequency, equal to one million cycles per second. the cycle of alternating current, 220

A tip that can be very useful, being an American power bar and put an adapter or change the plug part then you have 5-6 American plugs without needing adapters

but why bother, do you want to have transformers on every device?

adapters are only good for low voltage devices cellphones etc,

I would only bother because its prob much cheaper to buy home-electric products in the US (thanks to DD), plus I have a lot of stuff already.
Is it not worth all the saved money?

Thanks, that sounds like a great idea, but how does one change the plug part?

You gotta be handy but it's not that hard you can get the male plug in any hardware store, cut off the old plug strip the wire and put on the new one.

Just keep in mind that you're switching to an israeli plug and won't have the neutral line

And you might be a DDFer
while you're modifying your post you remind yourself that your car is double parked 45 minutes after alternate side parking!

Firstly, thanks for that info. Second, would an adapter work to just recharge my battery on a 18 Volt cordless drill?

You need to check the plug on your product, if it says 110-220/240 v you can use a regular adapter if not then you'll need a transformer.

excuse my ignorance, when you say "blow", do you mean they create a power outage, or that the device itself blows out and becomes unusable?
