For starters:
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3

Link to "Trick-it" thread on FT, Good Luck!

Booking: "Airline's own site is usually best. It just simply won't work there most of the time, hence the need for OTAs. And some of the smaller OTAs have employees doing manual checks of their tickets, so gotta be cautious there, too." (Moishebatchy)

See, this is precisely why booking FD's is NOT for the unwashed masses!!!

Here, let me make this nice and clear for you: when booking a FD, you CANNOT call the airline for ANY reason. You cannot call to add an infant, you cannot call to order kosher meals, you cannot call to request seats, you cannot even call to check if your flight is running on time!!!! No human eye (belonging to an airline employee) can ever see your ticket, period. If it cannot be done online, then you cannot do it at all. The risk is too great. Capische?

Oh, and as far as changes/cancellations are concerned... YOU CANNOT CANCEL A FUEL DUMP TICKET. EVER. Even if it's cancel-able online, because online cancellations are often manually reviewed by human auditors. You spent $450 on a cheap ticket to Israel and now your work schedule changed? That's too bad, you're gonna have to eat the $450 loss and let your ticket go into the garbage. If you try to cancel, your greed in saving $450 can trigger the cancellation of tens of thousands of dollars of other people's fuel-dumped tickets. Think I'm exaggerating? I've seen it happen with my own eyes.

NOW do you people understand what I mean by the "dark side of FD"?!

And NOW do you see why we don't like when the newbie, "gimme a cheap ticket to Israel!!!!" crowd gets a hold of these?! Let me tell you, when someone from that crowd gets a hold of these fares and books his family of 10 people for $4,500 total, and then they have to cancel the trip for some reason, I GUARANTEE you he will not resist the temptation to cancel and get his $4,500 back. He WILL cancel to get his money back, and he WILL get the dump killed for many other people. And THAT is a big part of why veterans don't like it when newbies get their hands on this stuff.

TIL that pretending to be a vegetable is a form of activity
Not that I'm 100% sure, but I think there are many people on DDF, who have many usernames, and play around with them for different topics etc. His point might have been, that he's one of those people.

I changed my opinion on this issue.

I spoke to some people who explained me the dangers of publicly talking about FD and they're damn right.

I'm gonna come forward on this one... it was me.

I had a chat with mesh (and a few other people) a few days ago, where I explained a few aspects of the dark side of fuel dumping - why it's very different than hidden city, why the DoT will not protect you (yes, I have firsthand knowledge of multiple cases of people who were denied boarding due to their fuel-dumped tickets getting flagged), and why a fuel dump getting exposed not only kills it going forward, but also kills it retroactively for all those who already booked.

It's not like a regular price mistake where Dan can eventually update the post with "Update: DEAD!!! Congratulations to all those who managed to book in time!" No, with most fuel dumps, the airline can still cancel your ticket if you haven't flown yet, even months after it was booked, and the DoT regulation will not apply. Even worse, if you've flown your outbound but not your return, they can strand you at your destination and deny boarding for your return flight unless you pay the missing YQ.

Think all of the above is hyperbole? I can honestly affirm that every single sentence I wrote is based on at least one horror story that I know of first-hand, in some cases more than one story.

So when mesh says that his opinion used to be one way, and now he changed his mind... I believe him. I was there when it happened. ;)

Yes, I'm proud to say I don't walk with my head to the wall.
I have an open mind, and I'm always open to hear someone else's opinion.

And if they're right, I'll give it to them.

Nothing wrong with that.

The world would be in much better shape if more people are open to change opinions when proven wrong.
Explanation accepted.

So FDs should never be discussed on DDF?  ???

If OP had posted more surreptitiously would it be OK?

FDs should never be discussed in public. Period. Not here, not on any other publicly-accessible forum.

Y'know how there are certain topics that Dan only mentions at DD seminars and asks people not to talk about them, or post about them on DDF? So this is kind of like that, except even more secretive. This is not DDS material; this is material for the exclusive DDS afterparty. 8)

Presumably on the entire flight (including the 3x), correct?

If it's so risky (which I don't doubt), why would it be recommended at all, even at DDS (or party)?

Correct. When you add a 3x, it's not like you're suddenly patur from YQ; it's more like you scramble the computer from calculating it properly - but in reality, you should now owe YQ for three flights, not just two.

I said it is NOT DDS material. The "afterparty" is usually only a few people, and they are generally not from the unwashed masses, either.

I know, but even there, it sounds like it's too risky, regardless of one's washed status. ;)
What's the risk/reward ratio? I'd love to hear Dan weigh in on this.

To sum up this thread, those who know about FDs (even if not necessarily this one) want this thread deleted. And those who don't know anything about them and want to learn (without much work, I may add) want this thread to stay open.

Hey there! I am using DansDeals Forums.

Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.
