Nice, how does it compare to smokey mountains? I have not noticed that ,ugh of a difference between the smokeys and the mountains in northwest nj?

I haven't been to Smoky Mountain NP,  but I plan on going maybe next year.

Going 3 nights in aug can't decide if I should grab the same hotel you stayed in (have 2 certs + can buy another) or stay in bar harbor 60k HH points per night.

thoughts on doing the 1 hour drive just to get to the park?

I did the drive twice (2 days, 2 ways each  day) and didn't mind. There wasn't traffic, the hotel is right by the highway, and I didn't have kids in the car. Obviously staying in Bar Harbor is more convenient, but you'll pay a lot for it. You can also stay in the kosher B&B in Bar Harbor if you want.
