Are you asking if an Airave will work on DSL?
Ok.. sure and also what about Cablevision/Optimum?

Optimum is high-speed, at least IMHO.

OK, never mind Optimum (which, by the way, sucked where I had it), are this airave things made to work with regular/standard/nowadays internet connection or do you have to have a spaceship/computer with NASA's internet speed in order to be able to use it?

You don't have to have a computer at all to use an Airave. If you're calling Optimum slow you're going to have to be more specific: What upload/download speeds do you currently have?

You can also run a VOIP test and a Ping test (preferably when you're connected via Ethernet) and let us know how they perform.

Interestingly enough, this Sprint Airave FAQ (PDF) claims the Airave doesn't require that much bandwidth:

Quote from: support.sprint.com/global/pdf/user.../airave/airave_by_sprint_faq.pdf
25. What type of broadband Internet connection do I need?
Sprint AIRAVE requires broadband Internet connectivity via DSL, cable, FT1, T1 or
similar dedicated services.
Acronyms:
DSL – Digital Subscriber Line
FT1 – Fractional T1
T1 – Trunk Level 1

26. What is the recommended broadband bandwidth for AIRAVE?
In addition to a customer’s existing Internet bandwidth needs for such things as file
download/upload, gaming, e-mail, etc., the average recommended bandwidth
dedicated to AIRAVE is approximately 160 Kbps for upload/download and will vary
depending on the number of simultaneous voice calls and data sessions desired.
The AIRAVE utilizes approximately 40 Kbps of upload and download capacity per
voice call and up to a maximum of 153.8 Kbps per data session if bandwidth is
available. Regardless of voice or data, a maximum of three simultaneous sessions
can be supported at any given time.
Acronyms:
Kbps – Kilobits Per Second

My guess is that because of jitter/latency you require a decent connection that isn't overly saturated with a bunch of torrenting neighbors.

Edit:

The Airvana manual has specific recommendations, it also shows data (EVDO) speeds:

It's not too difficult to meet those requirements, even with slow Optimum service.
But we all know too well that we don't rely on what the company tells you as much as on personal experience. They want to increase their sales!
So bottom line, what are the minimum requirements for this thing to work properly?
Are the above specs accurate for it to work well?

I answered your question with a question (or 3):

I answered your question with a question (or 3):

Although one shouldn't need to know my specific speeds to answer my question, here are my speeds if, in some way, they will help you answer the question:
Ping 97 ms, download 9.80 mbps. and upload 0.93 mbps.

Your ping rate is slow. Do a voip test, your jitters might be too high.
