Came across the 757-200 transcon config on EWR - LAS for some daily flights. Seems that most of the later flights are using the same P.S. metal that used to only be found on the EWR-SFO & EWR-LAX. Competition from Mint is my guess as to why they are stepping up here.
Getting an award seat on one of these flights would be a good use of miles and avoids the upcharge for real transcon flights. Sure you won't get all of the amenities of the real transcon, but the hard product is pretty solid. There is a big mix of planes on this route. Need to watch for the right plane.
TPG found them expanding to other west coast cities as well. SAN is a great LAX alternative.
