I am planning a trip to SA in January wit the new visa rules. Anyone else here going to SA in January? If our travel dates match, perhaps we can meet up or drive around for a few days.

I went to Jeddah a few weeks ago and had a great time! bh

Talk to locals, they love Americans, are very hospitable and are really excited that Western people are beginning to visit their country. and the few people that I told that I was Jewish were really excited that I came to visit as a Jew.

It's also interesting that IMHO it is the most similar country to America in several ways.

Mind to elaborate?

The desert scenery is similar to Arizona and the like, the streets are super wide like in America, everybody drives, big percentage of the cars are American cars, in general, they love American brands and there are tons of American chain food places all over. combining all these together, when I drove around I felt like it was the most similar country to America I've ever been to besides Canada (I've been to 70+). Obviously there are differences to mentality, style, burkhas and Alla akhbar ;) etc but these are striking and very external

On another note some very interesting stuff was the Mechitza they have in the food places... I went to two Starbucks one was a full wall completely separated one was like an open orthodox mechitza  :P

There's also the five prayers a day when all stores close for like a half an hour... I went to Starbucks and was about to order when suddenly the guy tells me sorry we're closed now "huh??" "we have brayer" it took me a minute and a few repeats to realize that he meant prayer lol

So the consensus is that flying on SV with a 7 hour stop in JED is nothing to worry about,  correct?
