Don't try play tricks, not there, unless you really had a delay on the incoming flights there.

Wasn't planning on it. Was just worried that we may not make it with all the kids and carry-ons (and for sure not if there is a bit of a delay). Is there a way to get my ZRH boarding passes in EWR to save some time?

Swiss still has the same schedule 10 years later.  I booked (on united.com):

Newark (EWR) to Zurich (ZRH) — Wed, Oct 19     SWISS 19     Dep: 9:50 pm     Arr: 11:35 am
Layover in ZRH     Thu, Oct 20     0h 45m
Zurich (ZRH) to Tel Aviv-Yafo (TLV) — Thu, Oct 20     SWISS 252     Dep: 12:20 pm     Arr: 5:10 pm

I'm not a frequent traveler and I'd appreciate any updated advice. Is this going to cause me trouble?

If you depart EWR on time, you should land at least 30 minutes early and have enough time.

But what if I depart EWR late? That’s not uncommon.

The gates are usually  right near each other walk off one plane and on to the next. (obviously things can and do change at times)

US & TLV flights are always in E concourse but there is security in between

This thread has - minus a few days - a 10 year gap.

Flying Elal from TLV-ZRH and transferring to United to the US. I have a 90 minute layover. Is that enough time? How long is the walk between gates? Thanks!

What’s the transfer process? Will I have to clear Passport, Security etc? Also, I know United leaves from E gates, what gates does ELAL use?
