Amex protections when using Paypal

about a month ago I bought a cat 5 cable from buy.com market place, today I noticed that the rubber cable is broken leaving the wires exposed. I payed for it using my Amex SPG via paypal.

does anyone have any experience using the Amex protections (price protection, return protection, and extended warranty etc.) when they payed via 3rd party. Does Amex give you a fuss b/c you used paypal and didn't pay direct.

Not the same as protections, my guess is those don't officially apply, and you'd have to work real hard to get them to give you that for a paypal purchase.
