Returning a car after opening hours (possible to extend the rental for free ;) )

Lets say i rented a car for the weekend and return on Sunday,
but the location is closed on Sunday (they have a key drop-off box) will i be able to return the car Monday 5 AM assuming the place opens at  7 AM.


I will appreciate your input!

I know that at least in some places they have someone who picks up the keys and checks in the cars. Even when its an off day

So try it and worst case scenario you'll get charged for another day.

I'm under the impression that if they want they could charge you based on video cameras but they usually won't bother.

I've had enterprise tell me straight out that I won't get charged as long as the car is there when they open the next morning.

Depends with the location. Some won't give you such a rental and will always charge you till Monday morning.

Universal Leasing in CA will usually let you return car while office is closed and not charge additional fees.

Monday was a haliday here in germany so all rental places (beside the airport) where closed.
I rented a car for the weekend and returned it Monday night.


The only problem would be (I took the risk) that if the parking lot is full (Avis) I had to park the car in the Parkhouse next door and that might have been a problem, but Thanks G-D everything worked out well (I found a small spot and squeeze in the car) !


Germany is not America though never would they officially let me return the car later (I asked once so they told me I have to call the company i f I come late )

correct done it by 5-6 locations mostly nj but la and miami as well

In the old days my father would rent from Thursday afternoon till Friday afternoon for one day, and the guy let him return it Monday morning. Every week.
