Meh. The comparison is they are trying to get him on anything because they can't get him on anything big. The fact that we all know Al Capone was a mobster doesn't change anything.
They got Capone on a federal crime. Getting Trump on a federal crime is not nothing.
Depends what the crime is. Imagine they charged him with federal grand larceny for taking a few hundred dollars worth of stuff from the WH, there would be an outrage and everyone without TDS would agree it's crazy.
We are talking about taking classified documents and then lying saying you don't have any, no? That is a serious federal crime.
Meh. The devil is in the details, but we're talking about the president who was privy to call these documents and likely had the authority to declassify them.

I think unless there is irrefutable evidence that Trump did something seriously wrong both legally and morally (taking documents he had the authority to declassify doesn't even come close) he will gain support from many who were ready to move on. Every time we see this, his argument that it's a witch hunt gets stronger.
All that goes out the window if he gets charged. If that happens, we need all I's on the jury.Many have been convicted not for an illegal act but for lying to the FBI about it. Many feel that isn't a serious offense but it is a felony.
It doesn't matter if he gets charged or even convicted. If the public feels it was a witch hunt he will win the next election in a landslide.
If he gets convicted the I's will not think it was a witch hunt. The nutcases on each side don't matter. Also you might want to check the law to see if he is eligible to run with a federal conviction of classified information.
This is where the Al Capone comparison comes in. If he gets convicted for something minor it will be clear that this whole thing was a witch hunt looking for anything to stop him. It will be clear to anyone without TDS that it was a witch hunt all along.
