IPad GPS in Israel
« on: February 22, 2012, 12:45:32 AM »
I didn't find this anywhere and wasn't sure if it belongs here or in product/tech support but is there any GPS for iPad that works in Israel with preloaded maps?

Don't you need a data plan for the gps? If yes, then just use google maps on your ipad.

google maps are not preloaded, so to use that you would need data.
the gps reciever may not need data plan, IF you have preloaded maps

interesting read on this topic

So far, no word on how Apple will break out the new iPad line's models, and where GPS capability fits into the picture. Apple created a confusing situation by including an AGPS chip in the iPad 2's Wi-Fi + 3G model, but not in the Wi-Fi-only model. I suspect Apple will follow a similar path when it intros the iPad 3 (or will it be the iPad 2S?) in March. Apple engineers have consistently stuck with the belief that GPS is not useful - especially with apps such as navigation apps, which download maps and location information on-the-fly - unless a device can always be connected by the cellular network (3G) when the user is out of reach of Wi-Fi.
