(DAN)I would do it over the phone, but is it really worth doing?
In "general value" it might not be worth it but the reason i am thinking of doing this is as follows.
My primary goal always is free flights and hotel stays to be redeemed as easily as possible, rather than elite status or sometimes not even maximizing the value, because I tend to have more points than I use (and I tend not to sell my points) so what is the point in saving for redemption only when it has at least x amount value CPM if I will have plenty points left over anyways- I might as well always travel free (I dont get to travel too much)...
I currently have enough *points to cover anything i might want to do for at least the next 2 years (and some Hilton points if a *wood hotel is n/a) and I have the BA points that I use for domestic on AA and I have AA points through my Citi card(s) for El Al and other OW flights-
The one area I am lacking that would be useful is CO points, so instead of signing up for a CO card for another $85 annual fee and move spending over to that card, i might as well link my *wood card (that I am already paying the annual $45 fee) to CO for direct deposit temporarily until I top off enough point for a couple tickets to TLV in business and then take off the direct deposit and continue earning starpoints (I assume I can turn it on and off whenever i want?)
Any comments on this strategy based on my profile?
