CitiBank 20,000 AA Checking Offer
« on: January 22, 2010, 02:16:15 AM »
I got targeted for a CitiBank 20,000 Checking offer.

1. Open a Citibank regular checking account in a qualifying package and deposit a minimum of $1,000 by 2/28/10.

2. Beginning within the first month of account opening make at least: 1 direct deposit OR 2 electronic bill payments OR 5 or more qualifying signature debit card card purchases each month for 3 consecutive months and earn 10,000 advantage bonus miles.

3. Continue doing 1 of the above qualifying activities for the next 9 months and earn an additional 10,000 dvantage bonus miles.

Does anyone know what the minimum requirements are to avoid a maintenance fee and if I need to also open a debit card like with the CO checking offer?

Thanks!

Citi requires $1,500 in the account to avoid maintenance fees.  You don't need any debit card.
The easiest qualifying activity with Citi is setting up 2 auto bill payments of $1 each on the 1st of every month for 9 months.

Don't forget with Citi you can use any MC/Visa to fund the account with no limits!

So technically, i can max out a citi AA mastercard to fund the account, get the miles, and pay back the credit card from that account, right? This sounds worth it even without the 20,000 miles...

Yes, but in my experience it's been difficult to fund very large amounts and they limit the number of accounts that you can fund by credit card.

That looks like it's for the Citibank® EZ-Checking account. When I click the link to apply it wants me to open a regulat "The Citibank Account" with a 6k minimum. Are you sure I'm allowed to change it? The T&C just say "regular checking account."

For the funding, I just got a new Citi Business AA card with a 15k limit. What amount should I try and use to fund without getting rejected? Can I try close to the max and then try again or they only let you try once?

Can you only do this with brand new accounts?

Can I shoot very high and then if it doesn't work go lower or they only give you one chance?

One chance, two if you're a good talker and get lucky.

Even if you do it online? What happens once it rejects you? Do you then need to call up?

Does Citi, Chase or AMEX treat these fundings as a cash advance?

Also, I signed up online using the promo code and didn't get any confirmation about the miles (tracking number etc..)- is that normal?

Dan,

Any comments on your past experiences in this department would be greatly appreciated. I sent in the credit card authorization form by fax...how long does it generally take? Is there anything else I should do?

They said the account needs to be a regular CitiBank account with a 6k minimum, but I trusted your advice and opened a EZ-Checking with the 1.5k minimum- I hope it still works!

Thanks!

i opened this account a few weeks ago in a branch, i hadnt been targeted but wanted to give it a try as i get a free citi account and was in the branch anyway.

the guy seemed like it was his first day on the job and signed me up, wrote down my mileage number, printed out a paper about the offer, and then i got regular thank you debit card in the mail. i called up, they said i need to call the branch. I'll either do it or not. I havnt funded the account yet, i was waiting for them to apply the promotion, which is good b/c i would have done it with cash had i not read this.

I opened a regular citibank account - not sure if the ezchecking works or not.

Can I close the account after the first 3 months and still get credited 10K or do I have to wait until miles post (they're saying up to 120 days after the 3 months) and keep minimum in account that whole time?

20K Mile Citi Checking Account if You have an AA Credit Card
« Reply #19 on: August 03, 2010, 12:37:49 AM »
I was in Citi Bank today and they offeed me a checking account from American Airlines (i think this expires this week) that will give you 20,000 bonus miles. i dont remember the details exactly but i belive you had to deposit $1000, make a few transactions (i.e. direct deposit, debit purchases, bill pay etc..) with in the first few months and the mile post to your account. there may be fee after the first 3 or 6 months. Unfortunalty I was to busy to do it today but i will gp back and get it done please post if youi get more info sorry i am being so breif

it should also be on any credit card statement you get form an American Airlines Citi Bank credit card

Good Luck
