True, but he's been unemployed for a while now. It seems like there has to be literally no other available coach in order for him to get hired nowadays. If he was that great, he would've been picked up in either of the last two off-seasons.

He's not "that great". But he has the skills to change a bad team to good though not great.
IMHO there are only few teams that he's a good fit for, CBJ is one of them.
There were rumors about Torts before Richards was fired and I thought Torts had a real shot at the job.

He needed time off since doing such a great job at Vancouver.  :)

Anyone here see him on NHL Network last week attempting to be an analyst? Total disaster. Couldn't even remember players' names. Almost felt bad for the guy, but then I remembered what a d*%! he is.

Ok I just figured it out. I wasn't around when he was fired. What is spooky is another member said the same thing about him back then as I did just recently. To bad that member isn't around anymore. He sure did know his hockey.

Im a Ranger fan that doesnt like him.  I did when he was here although sometimes I was annoyed with his antics.  But since ive experienced AV I see that we could have had success without all the annoyances.
He may not have had a great team but he did have a great goalie and thats all you need to make a run in the playoffs which is what happened.  his philosophy is way too restrictive and while you might win some games 1-0, 2-1 you wont get too far without scoring.

I dont think Torts is a bad coach, I just think he is mediocre and has a very short shelf life.  he could be useful to columbus to get the franchise going for a couple years and then turn to someone else when Torts inevitably outlasts his welcome

I don't like him as a person per se, but I love the entertainment he adds to the league...
Great to have him back.

I guess I wasn't the only one who was amused watching him trying to force his way into the Flames' locker room  ;D

Hawks get robbed (but right call) in regulation and win in OT. Defense/goalie have been playing lights out without one of the best defensemen in the league.

Yaaaaaawn.....

Is it still preseason hockey? I know the real season doesn't begin until April 11 when everyone makes the playoffs.

Ducks have been brutal so far.
5 shutouts and just 6 goals in 8 games.

Will they rebound from this disastrous start?
Or will the preseason Cup favorite completely miss the playoffs?

They were the favorite? How many Cups do the Hawks have to win to get some respect?  :)

You forgot it's an off year?
You'll have to wait for 2017.

But seriously, I don't think anyone picked the Ducks to be lower than Top 2 (top 3 if you wanna push it) in the West.

This season has been pretty startling so far (though very entertaining) with shocking starts from the blue jackets, Habs, ducks, and coyotes.

How is it shocking that the Habs are one of the top in the league? Every analyst called that. It's shocking that they're 9-0-0, but not that they're at the top... And I never understood what all the hype with CBJ is. Look at their roster. Makes no sense how anyone thought they'd be good.
