Not a big deal... when my laptop screen cracked, I just hooked up a mouse, keyboard, and monitor to the various ports, and use it as a desktop. If you need more ports get a USB hub for a few bucks.

This is my m6600 setup with 2 x 21.5 Ultrasharp Monitors.

Powerful. Easy to take home the laptop on daily basis.

This is my 5th precision. I buy them outlet-refurbished with 25% off for very good prices.

I had an incident on Koh Phi Phi (a small island in thailand) they shipped out new parts overnight and flew a technician in from Bangkok to repair it the next day - FOR FREE!

You serious?
If so, I cant understand why dell does that. Isn't it cheaper for them to send u a new unit?
I once had dell send out a technician to change the color of a laptop as they sent the wrong color. Took guy over an hour to dissect the whole thing plus he had to bring all the outer parts.
How do they make any money like this?

They would prob do that with any pro support system, even a latitude.
Dell is very easy with replacing parts but don't replace systems easily. I've had them replace motherboard + processor + ram twice on one system before agreeing to replace it..

Do you have any experience with the DisplayLink equipped hubs? Those are one cable and done. Not quite as good as a dock of course, but the next best thing.

Are you referring to multi monitor setup?

Doesn't have to be. The OP said he wants to use a larger screen (ie not rely on his laptop screen), but doesn't want to have to hook up more than one thing to his laptop every time he moves it. My solution was a hub/port replicator that connects all of your peripherals to your laptop via one USB cable. In order for the monitor to be able to connect that way as well, the hub/port replicator has to be equipped with a technology called DisplayLink. There are some DisplayLink enabled product that will allow you to connect multiple monitors to your laptop (in addition to your other peripherals), all via the one USB cable. I was merely asking our resident tech if he's has any experience with such products.

So far Thinkpad has sent me 4 replacement laptops+2 SSD and its still coming-Never once asked for any machine back and they all still work fine  ;D
They just choose to replace  the entire machine and not its parts, so worth it for me part of the reason I think they are the best.
BTW when they replaced my laptop they gave it to me fully upgraded valued at $2250 I paid $750.

They have pretty good tech support but their laptops look like they were built in the early 1900's.
