I just got insurance and they told me i need to switch over my license.

You can be ticketed for it, they never asked me how long. I was pulled over for speeding, cop was trying to be nice so he offered to give me a ticket for this. In court it turned out to be 450 bucks...

Were you renting your place of residence or did you own it?

Had same issue, the car I was driving belonged to my Father in law and had NJ plates, but showed them my lease and told them that after I finished school was planning on moving back to NY. Ticket was dismissed.

Eventually after I bought a house in NJ was forced to change license.

I tried, the prosecutor wasnt in the mood to negotiate. (they get a commision?)

I wanted to get insurance for my car in NJ and i needed to have a NJ license (Geico), though apparently some insurances don't care.

You were going 85. I say sorry etc. he say who's car, I say my moms, he say ok, I say please no ticket cant do the points etc. He say ok, comes back askes where I live, I say why, he tells me he can give me a slap on wrist ticket with no points for driving in NJ with a NY licence, I say thats great thanx but how much, he says prolly like 50 buck.
In court it turned out to be 450. cop was nice.
Point is that if a cop wants to give you a ticket for it its expensive.

My NJ title and NY registration had my NY address on it. When cop asked I said because I live in NY and go to school in NJ (not Lakewood C"V)

That's be cause they won't be able to run your record at the renewal to verify any new tickets.

They run your records at the inception of the policy but a computer does at renewal. Legally anyways you're supposed to have a drivers license in the state in which you reside which may have something to do with it
