Correct but if your going with your wife/husband many of the flights without the hidden city  trick are the same flights that you would book to lax at full price so you can buy one ticket at the reg price and one the cheapo way

Just because you may have recently gotten a flight for $42, doesn't negate the fact that $250 is a decent deal. Even just comparing to the screenshot posted above, it's an average savings of $30-$40 per person.

I've done it on United. I checked with them before I made the ticket, and you can request at check in to pick up your bags at the layover.

The check in agent was adamant that I would not have time to make my connection, and I said I understood the risks, but that it was my problem and she doesn't haven't worry about it.

Next wed 1/29
No hidden city:   JFk - Lax on AA nonstop cheapest flight is 159 USD  for a ow ticket on AA flight 117
With Hidden city:JFK - ABQ with layover at LAX on the same flight AA flight 117 is 120 USD

Book one regular and one for your sig. other with hidden city so that luggage will be able to be taken off the plane.
