So let me ask again. Would you call all the fake stories coming from Hamas sensationalism?

I don't know about you, but this story reminds me a lot of a news boy on the corner yelling headlines to sell papers. It is outrageous and beyond dumb.

It depends what Hamas is basing the story on. I don't think sensationalism is the wrong term, it's just not the only term. I think their PR wing is great at making sensational propaganda videos. And I doubt anyone disagrees with that.

My only point is "sensationalism" could be used for real and fake stories. If the story is fake, I would make that the major point. Maybe you think the story isn't fake?  :)

From both definitions, it seems to me sensationalism is taking something foundationally true and making it more sensational, even if it means lying or obscuring truth. A sensationalist headline is a headline for a story that is true, just exaggerated or misrepresented somehow. Same thing for the paper boy on the corner.

I didn't read the comments, but from the discussion, making up an assassination attempt out of thin air is way more than "sensationalizing".
