The problem is, you do not really understand what OEM is. Apple is not an OEM, and about 200 factories are apple cable OEM. They can still sell non mfi cables. If I could buy mfi cables for $1, I would buy 100 million today.

what do you think OEM means? And if you read the description, the seller says he packaged them himself. But if the cable has Apple packaging, it is almost 99% fake as Apple design not sell the to distributors and the gray market price for those are very high.

Original equipment manufacturer. Meaning these are the orginal apple cables.
The fact that they don't come in standard packaging can simply mean they had oversupply, sold it without packaging in bulk for cheaper.
This happens all the time.

These will work fine until an ios update and their will give you the cable working on the screen and then after a week it will work fine again.

I'm extremely naive because no company ever has the incentive to highly discount the golden mfi cables.
Even though mfi cables are posted by sellers on SD to boost Amazon rankings, and on ebay DD, because they are subsidized.

eBay is known for subsidizing deals up to around $50 (or more) so an $8 cable for a buck isn't the end of the world no matter how naive I am.

Not taking sides... The listing won't say mfi since the guy listed them as original apple.
Other funky cables will say mfi because they want to tell you that apple certified it. Cmiiw

It was clearly a deal as this seller raised the price back to $2.99. I am pretty sure he wouldn't mess by including a MPN and UPC in the description.
Also the fact that it is shipped from California gives it a little more credibility.

I might have to side with @EMCC here. I walked through all those Shenzhen markets for a day and saw Beats for $2, SD Cards for $0.10, Cables for $0.05, and more. Just because something is listed online as OEM or original means squat.

The fact that it is shipped from California also means squat. He could have bought a mass shipment from China to his warehouse and shipped them from there.

I did order one so I'll see when it comes, but I am skeptical to whats really going to come and ready to open a claim just in case.

$2.99 is still below cost.
