I am going to be paying medical bills, is there a credit card that offers extra benefits for these payments? or should i open 2-3 new cards to get multiple signups and split between those cards?

I was wondering where the points on my new Southwest card are and just realized I only spent 1500. I see my application was approved on April 11, which is also the opening date of my 1st statement. Is it exactly 90 days from opening date?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Applied for chase united and wasnt immediately approved? advice needed
« Reply #5870 on: July 13, 2014, 08:27:10 PM »

quick question. i just applied for a  chase united explorer business card.

it wasnt approved immediately and was told it would mail me an answer within
30 days. this typically doesnt go well. i am assuming its because i already have a few other
chase cards. should i be proactive and call asap to see if they can adjust my lines
over the cards to enable me to get this one too. if so what number should i call and
what dept am i looking for. if i am being premature let me know.

thanks

Definitely call. You're looking for the reconsideration department, see this thread for the number.

The bank wants to be paid back.  How much money a business makes is only relevant as far as giving you the ability to pay back.  If your history is that you tend not to pay back, I think they'll still have a problem giving you credit.
OTOH, you may as well apply for a card, and if necessary, call recon.  Bargain (beg) for even a small credit line.  Then put the account on auto pay so you're never late.  And start rebuilding your credit.

Bluebird or Serve.  There's a thread for each.
Use your favorite cc to buy GCs (best if it's at a place you get more than 1 PointPerDollar spent -  using Ink in office supply stores, using Freedom at a gas station during Q3...)(or if you're working on a signup bonus)
Put the money onto your BB at Walmart or Serve at ??(cvs, Family Dollar).
Pay your tuition using their bill pay service.

[I wrote it out for those who are new to BB/Serve, not to insult you mercaz1]

To directly answer your question. 2% is 2 cents per dollar spent.  How many points are you getting per dollar spent? How much is each point worth to you?

If you're getting 1 ppd (point per dollar), then you're paying 2 cents for that point.  Do you get that much value for your points?  You may, depending on how you end up using them, but usually MS (manufactured spending) tries to spend less.

so bkitzur then its not worth opening a sapphire preferred or some other chase or citi card and using it the whole year to get points?
I cant do the BB or sere model.
usually points are worth at least 1.4 so 2% is not that bad or am I totally wrong?

$1 x 2% = 2 cents.  If you are getting 2 points per dollar and they are in fact worth 1.4c your "profit" is .8c per dollar. If tuition is 20k, you made $160. If you get 1 point per dollar, you lose .6c x 20k = $120.
