Change your payment method to apply the points and "pay with this method".
On the final checkout page, change the amount of points to .01 and 'apply'.
The discount will still show and your stuff will be paid by your cc/ gc balance except for 1 cent worth of points.

Did it show when you were paying the whole thing with Amex points?
Did you only change to .01 when on the last page, ready to press "order"?
Dan has detailed instruction in a main site post if it still isn't working.

Did you activate the promo? Or did you use the promo last time around?
 It's not a new promo, so if you used it last time around then it wont work now.
