I know my question was probably discussed somewhere in the pages of this thread, but could not figure out how to search for the answer. My question is if I bought someones free nights and they add me as a guest, can I add a 3rd night to that reservation with my own points?

Just book the 3d night separately from your own account and let Hotel know during the check-in, that you will be staying all 3 nights in the same room.

Yes, theoretically you are sharing the same room with the person who sold you his free nights during the first 2 nights. But you are the first one from your group to arrive to the hotel, thus you are checking in first. (The hotel usually never asks about the other person as long as you are added as a guest on the reservation. But if they ask, you say your friend's flight got delayed and he is arriving later. That's it). So all you say during the check-in, that you are staying at the hotel for 3 nights and the 3d night was booked directly under your name.

Can't get a guaranteed suite but you have alot better chance under a diamond account when you get to the hotel.
