it's all about lip vibration. if you're cheeks puff up, if you need to seal your lips with your left hand, if anything but your lungs and diaphragm move, you're doing it wrong.

If you are blowing nicely then than you are doing it right no matter how you are doing it.
If you are blowing in shul and are under pressure ,clean with a pipe cleaner after each set and if there is a lot of moisture than bang it out first.I clean mine every year with alcohol an it is just fine.Just leave it to air out after you do it or you can get quite dizzy.....

Even rinsing the inside with cold water a couple of times will do that, it needs to be done every now and then

i have seen some shofar makers suggest against doing that as it can cause problems .supposedly alcohol is better

at the end of the day, who is blowing is more important than how they blow.....although the tzibur seems to appreciate a nice sound too

What do you need for a shofer to be good?
Years ago, we bought from a store along Mea Shearim who had many on display outside.  We tried a few until we found an easy one with a nice sound.

"litvish machmir" = distrustful bec of the possibility that the shofar has been proccessed in a way that makes it not kosher for tekios.
i.e. rack or holes filled, coatings that change sound...

I can blow almost anything, even through a drinking straw, so thats not my issue.
