Doesn't Canada and Korea (among others) already have something similar?
The part to notify before credits expire would be new AFIK

Good point about this just causing airlines to ditch award charts though.

Good point about this just causing airlines to ditch award charts though.
Since almost all the airlines have already ditched award charts I wouldn't be too worried about that.
