Maybe book 30 days out & change into that day

I have done this multiple times, works wonderful. Online for sure, over the phone you might get a rude rep that won't wanna do it, but as we all know the solution is: "put down the phone, and call again", I always found someone to do it.

Just last week, I booked an AA ticket using Avios 3 hours before the flight. Worked fine online. This was a route that BA does not service itself. Initially, the screen said that the departure date was too soon. However, once I selected the option to include partners, the error regarding close in booking disappeared.

my aa purchases on ba.com went through 3 hours before the flight online without any problem. i am finally able to book american on ba.com, up to last week it never went through for me and i had to call.... now it is smooth sailing

On another note... Is there a way to reserve seats when buying with points on ba.com (flying aa)?

if you have a aadvantage account then you can log in on aa.com, go to "my reservations" and search for the reservation using your name, flight # & departure city. this should save you the phone call!

as i indicated previously, you don't need to call if you don't want to. you can chose the seats by logging into your advantage account. aa will let you search for your reservation by name and flight number even if you don't have the confirmation code. if you don't log in to your advantage account then the system will require the 6 digit confirmation code in order to access the reservation.

Have you tried that? I have and it didnt find the reservation...

Or go to checkmytrip.com and put your BA record locator in and it will bring up your res that shows the AA record locator as well
