It's a joke of a case which nobody really has jurisdiction over. It's irrelevant, though. Winning the case isn't really the point. The whole thing is just a pawn being played with. Bragg wants to be seen as the guy standing up to Trump, and McCarthy wants to be seen at the guy standing up to Bragg. Bragg already won, to a large degree. Right now, when someone thinks of Bragg, the first thing they think of is the guy going after Trump, not the disastrous DA that has seen crime skyrocket due to his bail reform repeatedly releasing chronic offenders shortly after arrest, who made the average citizen fearful of taking the train or walking down the street, and the guy who lets muggers go while only prosecuting those who have to act in self defense from those muggers due to the criminals being released to menace the public and the police being hamstrung from protecting them. His current reputation is so disastrous that anything that will take over the headlines and put him in a new context is crucial for him. This has nothing to do with Trump, really. Trump is just a convenient unifying force for the left that he's trying to rally his base around to rehabilitate his broken image. If the Republicans go after him, then he can play the martyr card and run on that (the way he's currently setting Trump up to do). If he can make the question of supporting him a partisan question of right vs left instead of a bipartisan consensus that this man is a disaster, he'll be a shoo in for reelection (being as he operates in a liberal constituency). It seems to be working, for now. We'll see if it holds up.
