Authorized user affect credit?
« on: January 17, 2012, 12:48:45 AM »
I just checked my credit report (not score) and my spouse credit card which I'm an authorized user shows up on my report (has very high balance). I am not responsible for that acct and I'm only a user. I know this will affect my credit application. Should I dispute it? Or take of my user? And how long if I take it off until it clears on my credit report?

If you remove it it'll probably take a bill cycle or two to clear (AFAIK, I have no experience with this). I'd say they might ask for an explanation and it might affect their decision. The other solution is to BT it to a business card (those don't report balances to the CB if the minimums are paid), that'll also take a cycle or two to reflect with the bureaus. I don't think disputing it will help.

Edit: to clarify, I don't think disputing it without removing the AU will help.

Once you are removed as an AU you can dispute it. I just did that with TU & EQ. EQ took about a week and TU was two days. In regards to business cards, some of them do report to your CR so be careful.

Discover for many. You can search CB and FWF for others.

Discover business cc reports the balance to the credit bureaus? Sounds interesting.

Are you talking about a case where there is a late payment/delinquency/charge off, or even regular activity?

Did they give your ss when adding you? If not, it will only show up if other info matches e.g. last name +  address.

Did he do another hard pull?

Interesting.  AFAIK, Citi, chase,  and amex all report AU's. Was it one of those banks?

(Can anyone confirm this regarding BOA, Discover.  . . )

This happens from time to time. If the FI does not report it how will it show on your CR?

I just realized I must be wrong.  ;D

One other one you might want to check is Crap1 (not sure). Other than that it would be FI’s that are no interest to members here. No need to go into reasons why because we been there enough times already.
