Smartphone for Senior - Suggestions and Tips
« on: February 20, 2023, 09:27:56 AM »
I am looking to buy and set up and smartphone for a senior to use as a secondary device (not talk) for limited apps such as Waze and Uber.
He is not tech savvy at all and does not intend to get rid of his flip phone but wants some sort of filter/control on the device in case a grandchild gains access.
I would appreciate any advice tips/on an ideal model and any filter/service plan.

-Buy a cheap unlocked iphone. Either used on ebay or new cheap android on Amazon.
-Bring it to tag and ask for onetime fee- full block of everything except those specific apps that you need. (call your local TAG office before to ensure they support this type of filter on that specific model
-Get a cheap 500mb or so plan from hellomobile for $5, or more depending on  your expected usage.

Is Iphone or Andriod easier for a senior to learn and use?

Does it need TAG, or can parental controls work for the occasional grandchild?
My favorite cause: cssy.org

I thought Tag uses Parental Controls for iPhone.

Some of my kids opted for iPhones where another family member has the code to allow apps rather than TAG.

For Android there are launchers that could work well with seniors.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Yeah, i also think iPhone is the way to go for a senior, it's simplicity and lack of android features is a benefit here.

+1 on iPhone for seniors. Much more intuitive in my opinion.
