Hot Water for Shabbos in Hotel Rooms
« on: May 16, 2024, 11:41:15 AM »
A question that I can't seem to find any previous posts about:

Is there something to use that I can use to get hot water for coffee in my hotel room over Shabbos? I love the HotLogic food warmer to keep my food hot, is there something similar for keeping my water hot that travels easily?

We usually only need hot water for a cup or 2 of coffee in the morning so we didn't use an urn.
Instead, we used to keep a kettle on the hot plate over Shabbos but there were issues with fleishig/milchigs so we bought this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09KMHL64M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
It keeps the water pretty hot and its steaming when you open it in the morning.
I make a cup of coffee in a paper cup and its hot enough for me. My wife makes a cup in a ceramic coffee cup and its hot enough for her.
Of course we fill it up with boiling water before we fill it up for Shabbos so its as hot as possible.
Also, the summer, where Shabbos comes in 6:30+ will of course be hotter than a 4:30 winter Shabbos, but not so much.

Get a good name brand thermos and fill with boiling water and let it sit for a few minutes. Then spill it out and refill with boiling water. Should last at least 12-18 hours probably 24

If coffee is all you need the hot water for, you can make always make it before Shabbos, and refrigerate. I'd imagine it can't be that bad to drink a cold coffee once in a while... (Coming from someone who prefers cold coffee...)

Lukewarm water works the same for ramen soups. All the ingredients are pre cooked and just need to rehydrate

True. But then the soup doesn't taste as good. (Maybe for children it does.)

Nope. Be'er Mayim is the way to go.

I like water so I imagine it can't be so bad to drink seltzer that lost the gas every once in a while.

Or keep it on the hot logic (assuming its hot before shabbos starts)

It's interesting, but I find that flat seltzer has a funny taste. Doesn't taste like water.

@Euclid , I'm waiting for the results on the personality quiz. :P
