Which card to book ticket to Israel
« on: May 07, 2012, 09:41:02 AM »
I want to book tickets to Israel in August.
United and ElAL seem the same expensive.
I don't care which airline to fly.
Which card will offer me some added bonus booking a flight- maybe free luggage or s/t else?
I will not use miles since they want 150k miles per ticket. (selling the miles I will come out way ahead). I would not mind buying the ticket and using miles to upgrade to business class- is that possible?
Thank you- any advice is greatly appreciated.

One Idea:

Sapphire Preferred. Go through Travelocity or Expedia through the UR mall.

You can earn up to 4 points per dollar total for your ticket.

Will any other card give me additional free luggage or something?
How can I upgrade to business class from there?
I have a lot of united miles and starpoints

If you fly business you get 2 pieces luggage. If you are using your points you can check on united how many point you need for business,

IMHO it's not worth upgrading to Business with United. They charge miles as well as a hefty fee.
 But that's just me...

So its better to use chase saphire to book a united flight then to book with a united card?
And over the two airlines is one better to fly then the other?

If you fly business you get 23 pieces luggage. If you are using your points you can check on united how many point you need for business,

Using UA miles to buy a ticket is 60,000 each way if saver seats are available.
Using miles to upgrade a purchased ticket is 35,000 miles.

I'm looking to fly the second week in Aug. The tickets are around $1620 each
So Dan- If I sign up for this card and use it to book united flight thats better then using any other card to book united or elal?

Will they waive the fee easily?
Thanks so much for all your advice!

No you need to send an SM and even then YMMV.

I'd say you have a very good shot via SM.
Even in the slim chance you are shot down via SM though, your card will still work for 2 free bags for many years to come.

Showing the card gets you 2 free bags.
