SPG cash and points changes

Starting March 5, we will be making some updates to Cash & Points. These will include updating pricing and offering more options and destinations. Now you will have more choices at more destinations than ever before.
Changes will include:
Adding the ability to redeem for upgraded rooms such as suites, Club Rooms, Smart Rooms, and rooms with a view, where available.*
Adding all Category 1 and 2 destinations worldwide.
Updating pricing for standard room redemption, with the intention of expanded availability.
The grid below details the complete Cash & Points offerings and pricing as of March 5, 2013. Until then, you can book standard rooms at the current rates.

Spg points value goes down for sure!
On top of it the taxes would increase since the room rate increases!

The suites option is nice, especially for the lower tier hotels.
Gary isn't too unhappy about the changes.

But most are...

This is another reason that I'm of the opinion that the larger your stash of miles, the less incremental value has to be assigned to each point as it grows. (Although I know Dan disagrees.)
Over time, devaluations are almost inevitable...

Via Gary, spreadsheet shows the cost of the points (including tax) when you use C&P's instead of regular point redemption.
