Hey guys, i just did this Amtrak trip, and it was awesome!
I went from New York to Montreal with Amtrak ($50) the seats were huge, with tons of legroom, and a pullout recliner. The scenery is really amazing, (half of the way u are driving right along the river.) There is outlets and pullout tables at every seat. They even have a snack car to buy snacks and drinks onboard. There were also quite a few seats empty so i had 2 huge seats!
The way back Montreal to New York i went with Heiman's Bus ($65) the seats were cramped, no legroom, the bus was packed, crying babies, and the list goes on...
Buttom line is, if u are ok with Amtrak's unconvinient schedule, go for it, it is way more comfortable.

Just curious, what's the border experience like via Amtrak?

The only bad part on Amtrak, is the border experience. Everything goes really slow, we were at the border for 2hr and 15min. And the cafe car is closed, and there is no leaving the train.

Looks like 11 hours, I'm not sure how that compares to Hyman's.

It is totally including border time around 11 hours. I would say average on hyman's is 9-1/2 hours.

Sounds like SPG-LAN is still the way to go for NYC-YUL by far.

Going to drive from NYC to Montréal this week, anything interesting where to stop on the way this time of the year? Going with 5 month old daughter so skiing/snow tubing is not an option
