Just going by other sites that have it. Look at FWF that you can give red or green for a post. You get these childish members that will red ever post by certain members just because they don't like something in one thread. Then you have the members that just want to kiss a** and will green every post by certain members.
Would a minimum post count help it?
It's not about the quantity of your posts.  It's about the quality.

The problem is not with the n00bs but some long standing members that just won't let certain things go.

Sorry, I was under the impression that you all lived in the environs of "the Mir", a neighborhood not quite the size of Brooklyn...

News flash: we don't. :P

And even if we did, it's the size of, say, a large chunk of Boro Park.

I hear... But why wouldn't a "thank you" system work?

I am not sure what it will accomplish.

When somebody posts something, for example, that is innovative yet seems outlandish or bizarre, people will be much more willing to take the contents of the post seriously if they see a few people thanked the poster for the info.

Ok, but not quite th size of:

The point is still the same: just like Boro Parkers who are friends - even those living in the same few square blocks - don't all daven in the same shul, and don't necessarily run into each other all the time... neither do we.

Doesn't an idea making it to the stage of going into a Wiki already supposed to confirm its usefulness?

I would rather know if the post was accurate. TY's will not accomplish that. What if I posted you could transfer TYP's to AA?  ;) I would get a lot of TY's until they found out it was BS.  :)

Ok, ok, got it, lol.  (though the way you guys discuss each others suppers/chulents/dinners/kishke or whatever, almost made me think you all live in the same apt building or complex) ;D

Not really, for many reasons. The simplest reason is because even if something is useful, it won't necessarily make it into the wiki. For example, in the Israel restaurant/activities thread, the wiki is a list of restaurants and reviews. If someone posts a comment that a certain dish is good, that won't make it into the wiki (if every specific dish were included in the wiki, it would be impractical); yet if I see a few people thanking the poster, I would be tempted to try that dish myself.

...and then you would have the crap flamed out of you, and the truth would be known. ;)

But barring some cases of abuse, I think it would be useful overall.

Also, people would only give TYs if they were indeed thankful. Something like the example you gave is a case of pure speculation, and I for one wouldn't thank you unless I corroborated via a reliable source. And once I did... All the more reason for you to get a TY, for bringing it to my attention in the first place.

LOL, I hear ya... That's because me, Chaikel, rots5, mmermss, and artee all live on the same "block", so to speak. Armadillo and dealer live a bit further out... but moish, yare, Jkhein, Red, etc. aren't even close.

Not necessarily, if there'd be something like a sub-wiki (wiki within a wiki) type of thing?  Or even w/o that..
