Anyone know any rental car receipts that work to reinstate third party AA miles other than Hertz?

Hi. I just called Hertz to change over a rental agreement that had Gold points earned to United. They told me they couldn't do that.

Is there a trick? or is this correct. Does the rental have to not earned any miles in the past?

I'd like to re-instate United miles that expired in March.

I had 45K miles at United that expired on Dec. 1, 2017 and used a Dollar rental from Nov. 19, 2017 to reinstate activity. My United account just posted 500 miles from Dollar but did not reinstate the 45K miles. So I guess this trick doesn't really work anymore?

Thanks to @sam Finklestein , had my mother's AA account reactivated. It had expired in November of last year. Whole process took ten calendar days. Sam was a pleasure to deal with
