Cancelling a Ticket because of Their Schedule Change
« on: March 11, 2015, 10:08:42 AM »
I'm tired and busy, and I didn't find another thread for this, but I'm sure there is one- so feel free to yell or move this.
Priceline purchase of 3 tickets on AA (bought on sale) in Oct for travel at the end of March.
Priceline email of schedule change of 30 min earlier (to 6:00 am) in early Dec.
Now decided that really would rather travel a few days later.
a) who to call?  Priceline or AA?
b) what tactic / reasoning to use?

thanks

I have had the same experience and called the airline directly and told them the schedule change doesn't work for me and I want to reschedule the ticket.  They did not give me a problem

In my experience the airline wouldn't talk to me since I booked with a 3rd party( in my case Orbitz). But I firs got Orbitz to give me a partial refund, then a two month later when I decided I didn't want the whole ticket got them to fully refund it.

For a refund, you need to speak with the company you booked with (Priceline in the OPs case).

For date changes, you can speak with the airline.

Good luck because it isn't likley  happening. Same day only for 90min or less of a schedule change. http://www.aa.com/i18n/agency/Booking_Ticketing/Reaccom/rule_240_80.jsp#2

There are many reports on the forums of people receiving refunds for five minute schedule changes.

+1. I have also received better flights. Was flying to Tlv with a stop, flight got delayed 10 min, convinced them to put me on direct to Tlv. This was for 5 people.

Follow up:
The tickets were for my daughter and family, so I had her call.  ;)
She and hubby realized they wanted to travel a few days later than originally scheduled, not just later that day, so that's what they were going to try for.
She called AA and they easily let her change the ticket to later in the day, but a change to any other day would be considered 'voluntary' and would incur a charge. She got them onto a 2:30pm flight. (When I booked, the only sale tickets left for that day was the 6:30am ones.)
She called me and hubby to report. It was decided that giving up the sale tickets and getting available (we checked) BA tickets for a few days later would be preferred.
She then called Priceline.  They had no problem cancelling the ticket pending approval of the airline.   I just checked the AA record locator.  It was indeed cancelled.
I booked them on AA using BA for 5 days later.

Note that although AA and Priceline written policy seems like a change of less than 60 or 90 minutes won't be easily cancelled, on the phone both were very matter of fact that because of the time change she could change/ cancel her flight.
Thank you all for your advice and encouragement.
