Space on the plane. A lap child is not entitled to anything other than your lap and probably a bag.
Aha. So what do I do with the carseat to get it to my destination? Will they make me pay to check it?

i would take car seats to the gate and if there isn't any open seats the gate agent will check it in together with your stroller

What do they do if there's a seat but it's not anywhere near our seats? Just plunk it there for the flight?

I can imagine they would see if you can convince the passengers there to switch.

I recently flew EWR-LAX and back, business one way and economy (ended up being economy plus) on the way back.  Supremely unimpressed by the business class seats; did not lean back significantly more, or provide significantly more leg room, than in economy plus.  Not worth the extra miles, which is why I didn't fly back business.

I recently did the same; had to book in I because there was no saver economy available. EWR-LAX was a brand new 739, so the seats very nice and comfortable. What stood out the most was the service, with the FA taking my jacket when I got on and making sure my glass was always full. I was sort of upset the flight was so fast (5 hours and 1 minute).

On the way back, it was a 738, and I was happy I didn't waste the points on first, as the seats were old and worn and the plane itself was just rather nasty.

I don't know, you can let me know I have the same question.

If I booked on Explorer would that change anything?

The explorer gives you and a companion one suitcase so of your not taking that one suitcase then you can take that car seat instead.

I may be missing something, pretty sure most airlines allow strollers and carseats free of charge.

Probably.

Correct. The seats are extremely comfortable, but they don't lie flat. You also don't have the option of lifting the armrest.

Book the 757-200 next time you'll get lie flat seats.
