They are keeping tourist places safely guarded, they cant risk anything happening. Yet if there is a rocket attack nothing can protect that.
Chinese said the same before their bus got blown up in taba

I have done it and would do it again by car. Its beautiful there
Just because you did it and came back doesn't prove it's safe. Right now the Sinai Peninsula is allegedly really dangerous so why would you do it now?

They haven't been able to keep their own army bases secure in the Sinai, and I'd imagine they try protecting those.
Don't put too much faith in the Egyptian military...

So, anyone booked yet?
Think there will be kosher restaurants popping up as they have in the UAE and Morocco?

Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I was there at the Sheraton in 2013. Nice property for cheap. Red sea scuba diving was amazing.

  • Programs: 1. Search on google. 2. Search in the right board of DDF with a general word or two. 3. Read the wiki. 4. Read the thread. 5. Ask away.

General point, don't tell Israeli boarder patrol that you are going to Egypt for Scuba as you heard it's better than Eilat.

has anyone been here recently on the way to/from Israel.

Cheap flight to get there and then a 2/3 hour drive to Eilat...

Is it very unsafe?

Start with the international travel warnings against travel in the sinai and take it from there...

Quote
Northern and Middle Sinai Peninsula – Level 4: Do Not Travel
The Northern and Middle Sinai Peninsula remains a particularly dangerous area, with occasional attacks on security forces and civilians.

The U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens anywhere in the Sinai Peninsula, as U.S. government employees are not authorized to freely travel into northern and middle Sinai Peninsula. Because access to the entire Sinai Peninsula is highly regulated by the Government of Egypt, emergency services to U.S. citizens in these areas may be delayed.

I’ve gone from israel a few years back (before Abraham Accords even) and it wasn’t the safest. We drove from Taba, after we crossed border by foot from Eilat, down to Sharm El Sheik. At the first checkpoint we got to (there are like 15+ Taba->Sharm) they asked for our passports and after a few minutes they appointed a guard with a gun to accompany us because of the fear Americans will get hurt, kidnapped, or killed in the Sinai Desert. We drove in evening which turned into night, and as the sun was setting when we saw a car driving opposite us on the road and our driver pulled over and shut the headlights. We asked him why? He said because there are many terrorists here and if they feel threatened or “seen” they come and shoot up the car, so at night here everyone knows to just do this protocol… so needless to say the rest of my drive was a very anxious one but BH we made it there safe and had a great time. This was all before Oct. 7 so do what you want but I’d be hesitant personally …..
