when a called up hertz they said "if you're a gold member then you don't have to add your spouse". does that only apply if your gold number is in the reservation, or even if it's not. Because being that i made the reservation on hotwire, it doesn't seem that i could add a gold # to the reservation.

Pickup: Miami Int'l Airport
Drop Off: Miami Int'l Airport
From: 12/12/13 9 A.M.
Until: 2/25/13 9 A.M.
Preferred Car Size: Full Size
Age: Over 25
Best quote: Approx $2,000

- All total quotes should include fees and taxes.
- No quotes should include insurance unless it's included in the rate.

You may want to check out the master threads for each company to see if you are getting the best rate you can find yourself. The standards are;
Hertz: CDP 77694-USAA, AA, Chabad 1908469, BMG, AAA or 1906870;
Avis: AWD A177232-USAA, Costco (check thread) Chabad- X192286, BMG, or A144210
National: Great for one-way rentals try CID 5760333 or Nevada;
Enterprise: Chabad, BMG or USAA
Dollar: Chabad CL1111
Budget: Chabad U277223
but again depending on location of rental others might be better refer to master thread:

- if you are picking up and dropping off at the same location and your base rate is more then $30 a day for a regular car it might be worth buying a Hertz free day voucher can be found in the "goods for sale/trade" thread, with this voucher you can receive up to a premium car where it is offered. bear in mind that with this coupon you will not pay sales tax but you will still pay airport/security fee.

- if you are looking for a one way it might be worth looking in to buying a National free day one way voucher first one $25

I'm heading down to FLA (Ft. Lauderdale) on Sunday, Oct. 6 open ended.  I expect to be there at least 5 days, may stay up until Oct. 14th it depends.  I have not booked my return yet but I expect I will return the car to the same place.  I would like to find the cheapest rate and get the most award miles out of this; either UA or AA.
I have no experience with open ended rentals, I don't even know if u can do this.  Do they require a specific return date?  Is it better to reserve for the max and bring it back early or book for the minimum and then extend the days?  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Pickup location:FLL
Drop Off location:Same
Pickup date & time:Oct. 6 11:06am
Drop Off Date & Time: not sure
Preferred Car Size: sub-compact, compact, cheapest available.
Age (if under 25): :)

The way car rentals work is that there are basically four types of rates; daily, weekend, weekly, and monthly. you can always return it earlier or later and the rates will be adjusted accordingly. What I would suggest is to book a weekly rental (5-7 days) and then return it when you like each extra day will be charged the price of the weekly rate broken down into days. Mileage: You usually don't get too much (like 500 points per rental except for the Flying Blue Promo but their AWD rates are more than $100 more in America (And for the Promo you need to use it)
