Author Topic: Amazon 7 Day price match (Read 4303 times)

I searched but couldn't find this discussed. I recently had the price on an item I ordered go down within 7 days and emailed Amazon as always requesting them to honor the lower price. I received the following message: We work hard to find the best prices out there and match them for all
customers every day. Our prices do change over time. With the exception
of TVs, Amazon.com doesn't offer post-purchase adjustments.

I emailed back asking if it was a mistake and received the same response. I emailed a third time and received the following similar reply: I'm sorry that the price of the product has changed after you placed order.

Please understand that we are unable to issue a refund of the price difference because with the exception of TVs, Amazon.com doesn't offer post-purchase adjustments.

They essentially refuse to acknowledge their policy change. Anyone know anything?

No but its same as email. Sometimes phone helps but three times same response.

I've read this elsewhere. They stopped matching anything other then TV's a few weeks ago.

-1 ime. I have found chat and phone reps to be waaaay more helpful than email reps. Especially with the issue at hand, unless their policy has changed recently. I had a (chat) rep issue me amazon credit for the price difference 6 months after I originally purchased the item

At the time that I got a refund, the rep said that officially they only give refunds for 7 days after, but instead of a refund they could give me store credit.

But yea, I guess things could have changed

How long ago?

It was never an official policy that they did. It was up to the rep.

Now it's an official policy that they do not.

To clarify-
Amazon never officially or unofficially price matched other stores besides for TVs.
They also officially didn't offer price protection when the price dropped,
but unofficially they refunded the difference if you requested within 7 days.

Then you had companies like Paribus that automated the process,
and made it too easy to get refunded, and that was the end of it.
It was obvious it was gonna happen.

I buy mostly clothing items from amazon, and many times prices change within the 7 day unofficial time period. It just seems silly of them not to offer the price protection since you can return the item for free and order it at the lower price. They spend more money on the return shipping and shipping the new order. I just chatted with a rep and she repeated the same thing over and over that they do not price adjust on items except for TVs (felt like I was talking to a robot).

In the case of 3rd party sellers, it cost Amazon nothing to offer free return shipping.
Apparel is mostly 3rd party sellers so not really much for them to worry about.

So if you return and re-order, the seller loses the cost of your shipping (both ways)?

I'm m fairly big or at least frequent Amazon purchaser and the "I'll return and reorder" argument is what I use on 7-30 day old orders. Now it will be on all orders and if it's a big enough difference, I actually go through with it

For most fashion products like shoes, apparel, and jewelry, yes the seller pays shipping for all returns.
In other categories it depends on the reason of return.
