This worked wonders for me so far. The squirrels are gone as a bonus. Smells a little bad when you spray but that doesn't last too long. Needs to be reapplied every few weeks

Carbon monoxide is a lot quicker. Put trap inside large strong garbage bag, seal opening around a car exhaust pipe, and turn on for a minute. Unconsciousness occurs very quickly.

(I will admit that I have a traumatic association with this method due to historical usage against humans, but it does seem to be one of the most humane options available.)

Be careful to do this in a well ventilated area, not in your garage!!

No damage to car that I'm aware of. You're just taping a garbage bag around the exhaust pipe. Keep the door open when you turn on the car (and make sure it's completely outdoors).

For squirrels, it takes literally seconds until they're unconscious, and they're dead within a minute. I'm guessing a raccoon would take a bit longer.

Raccoons (protected species)
*Regulations and a set hunting and trapping seasons govern killing them, what can be used for that purpose. There is no daily bag limit. During the hunting and trapping seasons, a small game hunting or trapping license is required. See the DEC website for more.
* During the off-season, a free DEC nuisance permit is required.
* During the off-season, using a trap to capture and then euthanize is OK. Live trapping and releasing them elsewhere is a ticket-able offense.  If taken during the closed hunting or trapping season, carcass must be buried or cremated immediately.
