Myself and millions of other. The difference is pretty simple that I think we all can agree on. Some look at a spiritual advisor as someone who tells tell what is allowed and not allowed. While others look at this person for guidance.
I think there's a misunderstanding here. When people in this thread talk about 'the Rabbis', we're not referring to our current, modern-day, spiritual advisers - as you put it. We're talking about the Rabbis of the Mishna, the Talmud, etc. We're referring to what's known as the Oral Law.
Can you give me an example of what you view as people looking to their spiritual adviser for what is allowed and what is not allowed, as opposed to looking for guidance?
