Aldi Master Thread
« on: March 03, 2024, 07:38:58 PM »
I personally really like Aldi.
I am there weekly, and always see tons of frum people there.
I was thinking we should make a thread to discuss/list kosher items.

Interesting. I haven't found anything exclusive to Aldi (for one who keeps only CY and PS) other then their fake cheese and great pricing.

Id be more interested in a Temu thread as I'm finding identical things that I would buy from Amazon for 1/3 of the price.

Its not about exclusivity
Just that every item is cheaper
So anything thats kosher is a big plus

I would agree about produce and fish.  However I have found that Target and Walmart can be cheaper for pantry items (and eggs).

We're not mapkid on chalav Yisrael, so with that caveat:

Their ice cream is top notch and only $2.95 for just under half a gallon (instacart price, in store price is cheaper).
Ice cream cones
Salmon - $8.99/lb
Milk, especially lactose free milk is half price store brand
Cheddar and caramel rice snacks
Rice cakes
Oatmeal creme pies
Bagels
Cooking oil
Pudding snack packs
All yogurt (Greek, m&m, etc)
Chewy chocolate chip cookies
Margarine
Cream cheese
Cottage cheese
Bread (The plain white bread is $0.50 a loaf, hot dog and hamburger buns are about a dollar a package)
They have great guacamole in multiple styles
Most condiments and baking supplies
The produce is also much cheaper than anywhere else and usually very good quality.

Just to name a few things/ items.

I know that some things are regional, as family in Michigan has said that their bakery products are not kosher there, but they are in maryland.

They used to have pizza dough balls that you can defrost to make pizza in the Betty crocker that was only a dollar, but I haven't seen that in stock in about 7 or 8 months.

Community notes points it that this is not an Aldi specific issue at all, though the source is an org fighting against GMOs in general. Wiki has this to say on the matter (with copious sources):

There is a scientific consensus[17][18][19][20][21] that currently available food derived from GM crops poses no greater risk to human health than conventional food,[22][23][24][25][26][27][28]

Thanks for this. I like aldis, it's a nice place. I like how the cashiers each have their own office chair on their station...

Give my some items and well price check

I am comparing pricing to Target (from shipt), aldi (instacart for delivery to  Brooklyn) is usually more expensive in my experience.

after putting this together (took 5 min) it seems that target has raised their prices on a few things but still good pricing.

Salt 0.69
Ketchup 20oz $1.59
Mayo Mayonnaise $4.29 was (3.39 before)
corn ships 13oz $2.19
Soy Sauce was 1,69 now it went up to $2.19
eggs 12 pk Egg prices are changing weekly i have gotten for 1.79, but now its $2.79
eggs 18 pk Egg prices are changing weekly i have gotten for 2.75, but now its 3.99
Food Coloring 3.89
Imitation Vanilla Flavor 1.29
veg oil 48oz 4.39
macaroni .99
lasgna 1.99

I don't think the prices are identical instore, so it's not the comparison most people are looking for.

ETA: I will say that my wife shops heavily at Aldi and Target and is extremely on top of pricing, and I know we do milk and eggs from mostly from Target - so I think your premise is probably correct anyway.

Part of this thread should be moved to the grocery discrepancy thread.

Fair. It all depends on location and if you have a car or not.

I would add, that for instacart purchases i am using discounted GCs (from Costco $80 for $100) and at target as well (from their %10 off promo) to make it even cheaper.

Prices for eggs change weekly, so I usually am checking Target/aldi/walmart/costco to see where is cheapest.

yeah instacart prices are worse.
Cant find a receipt right now but from memory, Aldis prices are slightly better or equal.

There are 2 other pluses for aldi over Target
The stores arent huge, They basically only have groceries, so you dont have to walk all the way to the back.
IMO the store brands are much better than the Target/Walmart store brands.

Target mayo tastes off brand, Aldi mayo is almost the real thing.

(but obviously Heinz is the best for Ketchup)

was just in Aldi on Friday
Didnt remember what to check but checked a few items bolded above

Mayo 3.29
eggs 12pk 2.64
veg oil 48 oz 3.39
Macaroni .98

So everything at least slightly cheaper, and some things significantly cheaper.
