Sorry, just caught up with your response. I still only see one source. And a source it barely is. To base a halacha on one sigular shmu'ah of a story, when all implications of the halacha are the other way?!
I hate to break this to you, but you won't find a source for your position either (aside from the other mareh mekomos from the footnote I quoted). You seem to realize this by your wording - all
implications of halacha are the other way. It's called a stimas haposkim.
Again, if you hold unused items can still require shaimos - that's fine, and of course you don't need to talk to a Rov unless you want to go l'kulah. I myself am noheg to put such items in shaimos. But to talk down to those who do rely on this kula, as if you know everything there is to know on the subject, that's not cool. Especially since there is a source, as much as you'd like to look down your nose at it.
