Daas Torah says otherwise..
Who's daas torah?

And yes, it certainly feels safer walking in Jerusalem at night than in any other major western city.

Depends where in Jerusalem and where in other major western cities.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

I feel a lot safer there than walking the streets of NYC

And I *felt* safer in Johannesburg than I felt in Crown Heights as 9-17 year old.

For the purposes of this discussion, I'd go with the place that תמיד עיני ה' אלוקיך בה

Anywhere in W. Jerusalem versus anywhere in any major western city.

Yeah like yesterday we had a nes in Brooklyn when two terrorists’ gun jammed…
And I recall running into bunkers with my kids many times growing up….seriously!

The numbers of terror attacks say that. Please name me any person other than Yankel Rosenbaum that was killed in the streets of NYC by antisemitism.

Why do you pick one side of Yerushalaim and generalize all western cities. BP, Flatbush, Monsey, Williamsburg are all safe areas.
Depends where in Jerusalem and where in other major western cities.

I don’t think that any posek would tell a yid living through the Churban with an opportunity to escape, to remain due to that posuk.

sorry guys this was not meant to start a conversation about torah, just playing on the username @DaasTora who said he feels unsafe, thought that was way more obvious than it was apparently

How can you ignore SAFETY, SAFETY AND SAFETY!

Small people talk about other people.
Average people talk about things
BIG PEOPLE TALK ABOUT IDEAS.

I wasn’t talking about “feeling” safe which I agree that most Israelis do. I meant “BEING” safe. Quoting pesukim and gedolim doesn’t change the facts on the ground.
For the purposes of this discussion, I'd go with the place that תמיד עיני ה' אלוקיך בה
This pasuk does not indicate that tragedies won’t happen in E”Y, as apparent in the last three thousand years and most recently in the last 70 bloody years since the establishment of the state of Israel.
The October 7 massacre happened in E”Y and so has the Intifadas and all other more than 3000 civilians killed in terror attacks. Correct me if I’m wrong but NYC has had two terror incidents in the past 40 years.
I simply don't understand how people that just recently had to run to shelters and have had a miracle two weeks ago with armed terrorists can argue that it’s the safest place.

I noticed with many americans living in israel aliya is a hot button issue. If you slightly mention a reason why it wont work for you some get extremely defensive and start bashing america etc. I was in a shul in RBS where the whole rabbis speech was about how people who dont make aliya bec. they want gashmiyus....
If you are doing extra mitzvos, great but why toot your own horn and degrade those who dont?
Who was bashing them?

Arguing otherwise is akin to the idea that Niagara Falls isn't near as beautiful as Banias, the dangers of walking in Harlem or East Flatbush at night  notwithstanding.

Of course some neighborhoods everywhere will be less unsafe. But when I'm in EY, I feel a lot safer than when I go to NYC. That's it.

I was actually at the site of that terror attack about 15 minutes afterwards. I felt complety safe, as did everybody around me. When people in NY are attacked, people get scared. Yes, people I. Ey run to bombshells. There are animals there in the form of human beings. But 10 minutes later, life continues as normal. Here, people change there entire lifestyle. Stop taking public transportation,  run out to get guns, take karate lessons. There is a sense of fear.
