I don't know much about her, so I can't say if I think she meant to use that as a dog whistle, but that's definitely how it comes across.
I do think the criticism is justified, though. If a cabinet member can be on vacation for 2 months without anyone noticing, their job shouldn't exist.
Paternity leave makes sense to be able to help the the mother and family for a few days or maybe a week or two, but two months is a little overboard.
How does it work with this type of job? I'm guessing most government workers don't get that kind of paid leave. did he have to take time without pay?
