Travel Jitters
« on: January 28, 2021, 03:10:54 PM »
Even with well seasoned travelers, travel jitters still make their (unwanted) appearance. I am not referring to fear of flying; I believe there's already a thread for that. This is about other trip/travel related jitters.

Figured it would be nice to have a thread for people to share their questions, concerns, comments, and hopefully receive guidance, tips, tricks, or just commiseration and company!

I'll start;
As much as i love to travel, I get extreme jitters before booking my flights, and even after that, many times I'm quite nervous until I find myself in the airport. Once I walk into the airport, everything evaporates... :)

Specific trip can have specific jitters. Think: Will I be too tired to drive x hours after getting up so early for the flight? Will the food place I'm relying to catch before closing time, still be open when I get there? Will there be traffic between x and y? etc.
Now with COVID, there's more things to be jittery about....(Will my test be accepted? Will I manage to breathe with a mask for x amount of hours? Will countries change requirement when I'm out of the country? Will i get stuck somewhere? etc.)

Share yours!!!

The time period between transferring points from CC to airline and having the flight booked always has me nervous as hell. I once had the availability disappear and now I'm scarred for life ;D.

Icing on the cake when a website doesn't work or something and you have to call in. Actually had that last night.

Covid testing:  Will it be a false positive, and will the results come back in time, are the two biggest fears these days.

Mask Nazi flight attendants constantly watching if the mask goes below the nose is also no fun.

I have an important procedure coming up and they require a covid test before. I'm incredibly nervous about a false positive and I'll have to wait another 2+ weeks.

I had to wear a mask even in the house I was living in for 2 weeks so masks don't bother me no more.
I'm not who you think I am.

Traveled twice to San Juan PR, they require a PCR, not a rapid, and it must be done within 72 hrs of landing.
Very stressful. For both those reasons as the results come back within 24 hours of the flight.... If you're lucky.

On the way to the airport, I almost always feel like I've left something behind.  I calm down once I figure out what it is.  "Oh, the hiking socks? I can pick up a new pair at Walmart if I really feel the need." Once I didn't figure out what it was until we were at the airport...my cell phone. Oh well, at least it was somewhere that we weren't going to have cell service much of the time.

My wife is usually concerned that she forgot something (which inevitably we do). There are very few things that you can't pick up where you are....

This was very stressful for me until
1. No one in BOS CDG TLV AMS checked any of my tests.
2. When I mentioned to a couple of people the responses varied from "pdf editing is easy and free" to "just order שלילי" apparently it's completely rampant

not hard to deal with. Pain in the neck but hardly stressful (even with rambunctious kids)

Thank G-d I've never had such a flight attendant, but I'm EXTREMELY nervous about it every time, as my son will absolutely not keep his mask on. I do my darndest to keep it on through boarding and take off, but it is not easy, and SUPER stressful and anxiety-inducing.

I read once that before leaving the house, take a picture of the oven / stove / iron etc.  That way you can't worry that you left something on.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

When I have a flight scheduled before 8am, I can't sleep the night before because I'm too stressed I won't wake up..

Usually the stress keeps me awake until 4am, then I eventually pass out and don't hear my alarm clock  ;D

I don't sleep before those flights typically. It just doesn't come to me.

I've usually played around with various possibilities, and when I am up to booking, I get really nervous.  I worry that I'll make a mistake - wrong date, time, class...
