Replaced an outside faucet working in a crawl space. Son-in-law didn't know you had to disconnect the hose in the winter on a frost freeze faucet.  ::)

Always blame the in-law instead of your own ;)

You can usually get away with replacing only some parts with a service kit

Assembled a light utility trailer and added electric brakes and 7 way wiring

It was a frost-free faucet. In case some are not familiar with these types. It shuts the water off 4-10 inches back from the front of the faucet. When you shut the faucet off you know have 4-10 inches with no water so in the winter it can't freeze. The problem is when you leave the hose connected the water can't drain from this space and freezes in the wither. The pipe then splits, and this is exactly what happened. Of course, the builder took the cheap way out and soldered it on instead of a screw in fitting. Working in a crawl space with the connection up between the rafters was not fun.

backing this thing up is significantly harder than assembling and adding brakes.... everything you read and watch goes out the window the second you start driving. It's harder than learning to drive the first time.... You gotta unlearn everything

I had an issue where i thought the water was off but it wasn't and then i noticed ice in the valve.
I shut the water going to the outdoor faucet, and i am afraid to turn it back on.
Any simple tips to be able to check if something busted or not?

I can't believe this thread is already 10 posts old and nobody made a joke about working hard to eat a whole pie of pizza or sleeping for 14 hours straight, or some other non-accomplishment

What about an accomplishment of not finishing a whole pizza?

Not trying to be funny but turn the water back on and listen. That is what I would do.

I wouldn't even try if it happened again. It was a job for a plumber when it happened. Crawling into tight spaces isn't my strong suit. And I didn't have any in-laws to blame. It's squarely members of my household (or their agents).
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!
