I'm new to the whole credit card/points thing. I got Starwood, based on Dan's praise in all his posts. I'm buying a car for $15,000+, and wanted to use my CC which would get my points off to a great start. The dealer however says that he can't take a credit card, because that would make him lose money by having to pay the service fee 2-3% - about $300.
So I'm wondering if it is worth it to offer to pay the service fee, just so I get the points? I don't have any trips planned in the immediate future that I need the points for, it just seems like to spend that kind of money without getting any points, is kind of pointless (sorry for the pun).
So I guess the question is whether 15,000 starwood points are worth $300, or where would I draw the line? (Again, If i knew that I needed to get business class to australia soon, then from what i understand it would definitely be worth it. But i don't know what or when I will use them.)
Thanks guys
