We also have one honored guest who we paid for to come, he is time and schedule constrained, so we got him EWR-DXB-DME using EK points in Y, and DME-CAI-JFK using LM in J.

Also, one of our daughters needed to leave NY later, so we bought her a ticket on EK (about $200 more for the RT than the MS revenue economy tickets we bought).

I was hoping to make it to Rostov on the eve of ב ניסן, but being too close to the border with Ukraine, the airspace is closed. Last week we thought we found a solution to fly to VOG and hire a van from there and back, but we then found out that there weren't enough seats available on the flights for those who wanted to go. I might end up going with the family when Sheva Brochos is over.

How about Russian visas at $450 each? Not required for Israeli citizens, but I gave up mine less than a year ago.

No worries. Just reading a short snippet of Israeli news (politics, "law" enforcement, etc.) on any given day reinforces my conviction that giving up the citizenship was the right thing.

Maybe it's just because I don't read Russian that fast, but street names are so long, that unless signs are really large, I can't read the names fast enough.

For hire rides are very careful to abide by laws (seat belts, car seats etc) I guess fines are stiff. Riding in vans or charter busses requires passenger roster including passport numbers and DOB.
